| Sunday 18 May |
“Flowers & Music in the Museum”. 12 Noon – 5pm. In association with the Hibiscus Society of Queensland and on the occasion of International Museum Day, Historic Newstead House presents “Flowers & Music in the Museum”. Newstead House will be alive with hundreds of Hibiscus blossoms while in the afternoon visitors will be entertained by students in Brisbane State High School’s Instrumental Music Program. This free public concert commences at 2.30pm. There will also be quizzes and plants for sale. And why the hibiscus? Hibiscus was amongst the first flowers described by early European visitors to the Moreton Bay district. |
| Sunday 8 June |
Historic Newstead House will hold a special afternoon on Sunday 8 June to celebrate Queensland Day. June 6 is the anniversary of the signing in 1859 of Letters Patent creating the Colony of Queensland.
This celebration is part of a broader suite of Queensland Week activities organised to acknowledge how lucky we are to be part of such a wonderful lifestyle.
Bring a rug and enjoy a picnic in our beautiful winter sunshine whilst you enjoy the music or partake of a Devonshire tea which is served on the north eastern verandahs of the House. From 2pm Newstead House will be open for inspection. Celebrate Queensland Day and share in a sense of pride in being both an Australian and a Queenslander. |

Sunday Concert Series. Runcorn State High School Concert instrumental music groups will be performing. Concert commences at 2.30pm. BYO folding chair or rug. |

People’s Day at the RNA. Our Country Visitors especially welcome. Just turn up wearing your RNA membership badge, wide brimmed hat and/or Driza-Bone and you will be receive free admission. Opening hours: 2:00 to 5:00pm. |

Historic Newstead House Invites you to join in the festivities as it celebrates its 162nd birthday from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday 24 August. Be surprised when you step into the Vestibule and be welcomed by Patrick Leslie and hear him tell his story. Visit the rooms downstairs in what was the original cottage and listen to the servants as they go about their daily chores. Enjoy 162 minutes of music & mayhem (Madeleine Charles playing at the Demi Grande Piano at 3pm). Be entertained by Scottish Clan Stuart Pipes & Drums when they perform at 2.15pm and again at 2.45pm. Historic Newstead House & the Friends of Newstead Inc presents Salon Gardenesque - A Celebration of Spring & The Feast Day of St Fiacre, Patron Saint of Gardeners & Cab Drivers et al from 10am to 5pm on Sunday 31 August. Entry by donation. Decorate & wear a Spring Bonnet … Experience Newstead House filled with displays celebrating the arrival of the Season of Spring ... Craft Table ... Badge Making ... Cartoonist ... Historic Newstead House, in association with members of the Breakfast Creek Heritage Precinct, cordially invites you to gather at Historic Newstead House between 5:00pm and 7:00pm to celebrate the anniversary of the proclamation of the Colony of Queensland from the verandahs of Adelaide House on 10 December 1859. Year 2009 is the Sesquicentenary of the creation of the Colony of Queensland.
Our programme of events will include complimentary refreshments, the presentation of historical vignettes, a Proclamation Day Quiz, and the exchange of Seasonal Greetings with community carols sung around the demi grande piano. RSVP: Pamela on 3369 2507.
