Situated in a tranquil park on the banks of the Brisbane River, historic Newstead House is Brisbane’s oldest surviving residence. Dating from 1846 when it was constructed for the pioneering pastoralist Patrick Leslie, the homestead is a reflection of the late Victorian period.

Newstead House, Newstead Park and the nearby Breakfast Creek Heritage Precinct provide a history lesson ‘come to Life’.

Newstead House is open Monday – Thursday 10am to 4pm and Sundays 2pm to 5pm.  Our telephone number is 07 3216 1846 or Freecall [outside Brisbane] 1800 06 1846.

Office hours are Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm.

Bookings are made on the hour Monday to Thursday. It is necessary to pre-book a visit so that all groups may enjoy the House and be able to view its Collection in comfort.  Please book early as it is not always possible to offer a guided tour.

Newstead House has a souvenir shop selling craft, preserves, tea towels, spoons and cold drinks etc.

Newstead Park is an ideal picnic spot with some scattered tables and bench seating. Observe the activities on the Brisbane River and in Breakfast Creek; converse with Ficus, the ‘talking’ fig tree; seek out the ‘Brisbane Blooms’ storyboards; solve the puzzles in the Alice through the Looking-Glass play space and stand and reflect before the many Memorials scattered throughout Newstead Park.

The Breakfast Creek Heritage Precinct includes the historic villa Miegunyah at Bowen Hills,  the Perry Park photographic Vista, the Cloudland memorial, the unique Temple of the Holy Triad and the home of ‘barefoot bowls’ – the Booroodabin Bowls Club.  
Brisbane City Council buses with route nos. 300 and 302 travel along Breakfast Creek Road with Stop 12 the closest to the entrance to Newstead Park.

CityCat ferries do not call in at Newstead Park however River City Cruises offer a twice-daily service between Southbank Parklands and the John Oxley Landing on Newstead Point.  Bookings are essential. Permission to berth alongside the John Oxley Landing must be obtained from the Brisbane City Council on 07 3403 8888.
