Breakfast Creek Heritage Precinct

The Precinct is an area from Bowen Hills in the west, down to the Brisbane River and also covers the suburbs of Newstead, Breakfast Creek, Albion and the foothills of Hamilton. Meandering through this district is the iconic Breakfast Creek, a creek with two names: ‘Breakfast’ where it joins the Brisbane River and ‘Enoggera’ just a few kilometres upstream.

The Breakfast Creek Heritage Precinct grew out of a determination to identify and record things cultural, social and historical in a district undergoing great change.  The creation of this dedicated precinct is a work in progress. It is hoped that other communities would be inspired to act following the efforts of participants in and around the districts surrounding Breakfast Creek to ensure that the ‘Creeks’ innate Sense of Community not be lost but enshrined forever.

At present, the Precinct is made up of 10 contrasting elements from the Past or memorials to the Past, easily assessable by the wider Community –

  1. Palma Rosa
  2. Booroodabin Bowls
  3. Breakfast Creek Hotel
  4. Cloudland Memorial
  5. Miegunyah
  6. Newstead House
  7. Newstead Park
  8. Perry Park Recreational Area
  9. Temple of the Holy Triad
  10. Twelfth Night Theatre

These ten elements provide a living History lesson, all the more enjoyable because nobody is made to feel that they are back in the classroom.  The strength of the Precinct is to be found in the diversity of the ‘experiences’ on offer. Click here (pdf. File) to download the brochure.
