Welcome
  .

Friends of Newstead Inc. is a Committee of volunteers, assisting The Newstead House Trust with the conservation and public presentation of Newstead House.

Friends assist as guides, working either a week-day or Sunday/public holiday roster. Friends also serve a traditional Devonshire Tea on the verandahs, Sunday March – November inclusive and offer refreshment packages to groups visiting Monday to Friday. There is a souvenir shop staffed by Friends.

Friends fund-raise and seek grants to ensure the ongoing public presentation of Newstead House as Brisbane’s oldest surviving domestic dwelling and there are ‘hands on’ opportunities to assist at regular working bees with polishing silver, dusting, painting or weeding in the Kate Leslie Herb & Cottage Garden.

Friends participate in and promote social and historical events at Newstead House and beyond and arrange coach tours to places of historic import.  Email Newstead House on newstead@gil.com.au for your copy of the Friends’ public programme of events for Newstead House.

New members are always most welcome. To join us, please download a nomination form Membership Application Form. Click here [185Kb PDF file] or email newstead@gil.com.au. Refurbishment of the Master Bedroom

The refurbishment of the Master Bedroom at Newstead House was completed in 2007. This project was paid for by Friends of Newstead Inc with Friends engaging a conservation architect, joinery specialist and artisan to refurbish the room to reflect the period when the Harris family was in residence.
